Found or Stray Pet Suggestions
Found Pet Suggestions
Thank you for caring about this pet. Send us the following information - a day and place where the animal was found, picture, sex, temperament, whether has collar, if injured, whether taking food and water, if confined, contact information - and Pet Friends will do a courtesy post on our Facebook page.
You can also check if the animal is posted on the Lost and Found Pets of Duplin County Facebook page and if not, request that the same information you send Pet Friends be posted there.
Pet Friends also recommends that you do the following:
Report the animal to the Duplin County Animal Services (DCAS) within 72 hours, as required by county ordinance. They may have had a report of a lost dog and connect with the owner. After hours, call the non-emergency number for Duplin County Sherriff’s office - 910-296-0115.
If you cannot secure the animal (runs away or is skittish or aggressive), ask DCAS to come pick up the animal.
Take the animal to a vet or DCAS to be scanned for microchip to see if it has a registered owner.
Do not give away or re-home the animal until these steps are done and you have waited at least 7 days after notifying DCAS.
If you are unable to keep the animal, please take to DCAS shelter. They will look for an owner for 72 hours and if none found will do their best to find a rescue or adopter. They post animals on their Facebook page and work with folks from Friends and Volunteers of the Duplin County NC Animal Shelter Facebook page to locate rescues and adopters
